Target now offering free credit monitoring after security breach

So… you’ve had your phone number, card details, mailing address and what ever else those cyber criminals stole through the major Target hack. But do not panic! Target will soon send you an email offering you one year of free credit monitoring from Experian, which is currently valued at about $200!

You may or may not be aware of the Target security breach, with was first detected last month. This security breach (or hack) affected many of Target’s customers who have shopped in-store with the checkouts and not online or by phone.

Here’s what Target’s CEO Gregg Steinhafel has wrote in an E-mail about the security breach and Target’s offering of one years free credit monitoring:

“I am writing to make you aware that your name, mailing address, phone number or e-mail address may have been taken during the intrusion. I am truly sorry this incident occurred and sincerely regret any inconvenience it may cause you. Because we value you as a guest and your trust is important to us, Target is offering one year of free credit monitoring to all Target guests who shopped in US stores, through Experian’s ProtectMyID product which includes identity theft insurance where available.”

So, how do I get my free credit monitoring? You will need to register at creditmonitoring.target.com before April 23rd 2014.

If you’ve been affected by the Target security breach, we advise that you contact Target and your local authorities if necessary.

Will

  1. […] The hack has without a doubt affected Target as well. Last month (about a month after the hack was officially acknowledged), Target announced that they’ll be offering all customers affected by the events with 1 year’s free credit monitoring. You can find out more about this and how to apply for it here. […]
